Protection within an intrinsically safe system is reliant on the limitation of energy into the hazardous area (or zone). Documentation that details the systems permissible energy levels is an essential requirement. It enables the client to display and analyse the protection method and so maintaining it in the event of change becomes much simpler.

A DSD proves compliance by verifying the energy limiting device i.e. the barrier, is compatible with the field device in terms of power, capacitance and inductance values.

MDB Engineering can develop DSD’s at all levels dependant on the requirements of the regulatory authority in question but our standard DSD format is fully compliant with the British Standard and DSEAR regulations.
